Colophon

The Faculty of Invisibility composes itself of a group of artists, practitioners, designers, theorists and teachers who mutually carry out an emerging institute. The Faculty does not stage events and does not take public appearances, besides issuing its communications. As such the Faculty of Invisibility appears to be in disengagement, a context in withdrawal.

On the 10th of December 2007, upon invitation of Marko Stamenkovic, runaway participant of de Appel's Curatorial Program, the Department of Practice (Inga Zimprich), the Department of Reading (Sönke Hallmann) and the Department of Haunting (Paul Gangloff) have
invited the participants of de Appel's Curatorial Program, to attend an event that was bound to be left unattended. Exappropriating the act of inviting and determining an event to be unattended allowed for the realisation of the machine of the Department of Haunting. Haunting manifests itself as a technique of daily insistence. Haunting resonates and invites for taking place out of time.

Since, within the very place that the Department of Haunting is, the Faculty of Invisibility has been its own guest, finding hospitality in Het Blauwe Huis, a residency for the mind, and centering around the Kalvertoren in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The Faculty's communication that evolved during the Invitation is issued with eight letters, type-set in Courier, announced by a
foreboding. The letters are xeroxed at Copy Copy, Amsterdam. The letters are sent in C6 white envelopes by postal mail to a readership assembling helpers or tricksters. In doing so, the Faculty of Invisibility does not know if it has counted five-hundred and sixty-two addressees, or one addressee, five-hundred and sixty-two times.

Rather than making use of such texts as: We have won! Haven't we? by Ulisses Carrión, Dichtertjes by Nescio, The image of Proust by Walter Benjamin, notes from Franz Kafka of December 1910, Die Gehilfen by Giorgio Agamben, Mischien Wisten Zij Alles by Toon Tellegen, Metamorphosis by Ovid, The Stranger by Albert Camus, Good Intentions by Eric Haagoort, Ghosts Like Me by Stanley Brinks it is them which seem to have been using us.
